Printmaking: Stamp, Press, Repeat

A print is a mark you can make twice.

About This Course

Printing is repeatable magic. Make one mark, then make it again, exactly, or almost exactly. That's the whole idea, and it's enough to build a picture from.

What You'll Create

  • A collection of stamped prints made across the term.
  • One finished pattern or picture selected for the end of term exhibition.
  • A short verbal description of how they made their print.

What You'll Learn

  • You'll make the same mark again and again with a stamp or block.
  • You'll find out why "backwards" matters when you print.
  • You'll build a whole pattern by repeating one shape.
  • You'll work confidently in one colour before adding more.
  • You'll talk about a print you made.

The Support You'll Get

You won't be handed the answer. You'll be shown how to find it.

Your practitioner has spent years making their own work, and their own mistakes. In the studio they work alongside you: asking the right questions, pointing out options you hadn't seen, helping you push through the moment you get stuck. The ideas stay yours. The decisions stay yours. They're there so you're never finding the way through alone.

Week by Week

Week 1: What is a print? Found-object stamps. Sponges, corks, anything with a shape.

Week 2: One shape, many prints. Building a pattern through repetition.

Week 3: Backwards thinking. What "the wrong way round" means in print.

Week 4: A second stamp. Combining two shapes in one pattern.

Week 5: One colour, many shades.

Week 6: From pattern to picture. Turning repeated marks into something recognisable.

Week 7: A print made with someone else in mind. Choosing a favourite from many attempts.

Week 8: Exhibition. Public showing, families attend.

Every course ends with an exhibition

Celebrate what you created with the people and our community. Every term concludes with a presentation or exhibition of your work: a chance to share your process, your ideas, and what you've made.
