Frequently Asked Questions

We've never been to Assembly before: what should we expect?

Assembly is a purpose-built creative studio in Mornington. Our holiday programs are hands-on, project-based, and led by professional practitioners. Students work independently and collaboratively in a supportive environment. We focus on real skills, creative thinking, and making work you're proud of. Parents are welcome to tour the studio during drop-off on the first day.

Does my child need prior experience?

No prior experience is required. Our programs are designed to meet students where they are, whether they're complete beginners or have some experience. Instructors provide individual guidance and adapt projects to suit different skill levels within the group.

What about allergies or additional needs?

Please let us know about any allergies, dietary requirements, or additional needs during the enrolment process. We'll work with you to ensure your child has a safe and positive experience. Contact us directly if you'd like to discuss specific requirements before enrolling.

How many students are in each program?

Groups are capped at 10 students, with instructors who are working practitioners in their field. For activities involving higher-risk tools, a second adult is present.

Are instructors safety checked?

Yes. All Assembly instructors hold a current Working with Children Check and a National Police Check.

Andrew Chew

Visual Communication & Photography

Andrew studied Visual Communication, majoring in Photography. Twenty years on, he's worked as a designer, photographer and gallery director, running No Vacancy Gallery and later directing YAVA. He built Assembly because the system around young people kept treating creativity as decoration instead of discipline. He teaches the way he's worked: try, fail, try again. Back your ideas. Test them. Push through when it's not working yet. He's spent years making his own work and his own mistakes, and in the studio he works alongside you, showing you how to look, how to frame, how to decide what matters, then make it.
